Mzimba

9th March 2016:

Last week we were asked by one of our long term workers, Miriam if we would consider starting a programme of pump installation in her home area, Mzimba and naturally we agreed.
We travelled about two and a half hours south to be greeted by an amazing community of women and men, maybe 250 in all.
Some had come very long distances to discuss community development, led by two energetic and positive young men.
They have been working for many years now on building up community spirit, through youth work and women and girls issues.
BUT TODAY their main focus was on their water crisis.
So getting straight into action, they agreed to have a first well dug by Wednesday next when the team will return to do training and install the first pump, even if it's a temporary one.
We could have began a series of meetings, Sensitisation, Memoranda of understanding and all that kind of stuff, that other groups engage in, BUT we believe on moving on with the people. They know what is best for them and will get on with it.
Our factory boss Alfred informed them we had 342 pumps ready to go when someone asked were  we ready to start.
Of course we discussed preschools, farming, women self-help groups and other ways we may be able to assist, but very easily agreed that all there would be done slowly, slowly
