Salamander dreams after the storm

I raise one slow front foot and slide it forward,
lifting a back foot to feel my way, belly sliding
over slick grass, raindrops pooling
in trenches, mud thinning from
a sling of rivulets running off the tips
of a thousand ferns. Runnels pour down
tree trunks, thrumming rainwater
rivers between my four slow legs.

First extra is the incredible FOAM that follows storms on the Pacific Coast. It has something to do with some living creatures in the water. The foam at the edge of the ocean piles up several feet deep in places. Second extra: dawn and a sun-break before more of the storm.

I am astonished by all the hearts and stars. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
