Brush Tongued Waxeye

Zosterops lateralis

Like the bellbird, the other nectar eater that visits my garden, waxeyes have a brush tongue. Very useful for collecting nectar from the flowers.

Waxeye Movie I have made a little movie of waxeyes feeding on fat. It shows how erratic they are, and the way they shake their wings as a threat to others. Also included is the series of stills that the blip "Fech Off" was part of.

My thanks to my son for the technical assistance and patience.

For the first time in months the song thrush is singing.
