Flower Friday - Seen better days

What would I do without the nearby Public Rose Garden - it can always provide a blip for Flower Friday.

I have no idea what this flower is but it is from the collection of perennials - I do wish they were named like the roses.

I have put a sample of the flower in the extras in case someone can identify it.

The blip and the extra actually show three stages of the flower.  The blip shows a flower starting to wither and die. The extra has the same flower that is in its prime and right beside it one that is either just opening or just past its best - the latter, I think. I must remember to go back and see how the seed heads turn out.
