Restoration at The Holy Innocents, Mt Peel Station

This year I have a very special project to work on; I'm very honoured to be able to document the restoration of the historic Church of the Holy Innocents for the Acland family of Mt Peel Station.

Badly damaged in the September 2010 Earthquake, the church has stood in need to repair for over five years, but now a crew of dedicated stonemasons and builders are strengthening and restoring the church to its previous glory.

It's going to take five months, with the church being pinned and grouted, as well as having its east wall taken down to a height of two metres before being reinforced and rebuilt. As part of that reconstruction, the once shattered but now restored east window will come home to Mt Peel from the Quake City exhibition in Christchurch.

I hope to post more photos as the restoration progresses. Watch this space!
