St Swithin's Day

St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St. Swithin's day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.'

And guess what it was doing most of this morning? Apparently peeved by having his burial place (originally outside) moved inside a cathedral St Swithin showed his fury by drenching the ceremony. Looks like another 6 weeks of delightful weather then.
Never mind - I have made gooseberry and lemon balm jam (divine), hoovered and weeded the polytunnel and now the sun is shining, albeit a bit feebly. Just re-read that sentence - no, my polytunnel isn't that sparkling - hoovered inside!!

Today's blip is some damp but rather gorgeous borage - according to Gerard's Herbal of 1597 flowers were used in salads to 'exhilarate and make the minde glad' - a similar effect can be had by adding to Pimms.
