Mirrors and Mystery

Not my favourite photo of the day, but goes best with today's poem, "The Kingdom", by R S Thomas:

It's a long way off but inside it
There are quite different things going on:
Festivals at which the poor man
Is king and the consumptive is
Healed; mirrors in which the blind look
At themselves and love looks at them
Back...
It's a long way off, but to get
There takes no time and admission
Is free, if you will...

Anyone who knows me knows that The Kingdom is a favourite subject of mine - an obsession, even. And love the way this poem brings out some of the mystery and magicalness of it - and a mirror is a good metaphor for all that. M and Bia and I in Afonso, having a drink and a pastel de nata, sprinkled with cinnamon.

Some progress with bureaucracy today, though not as much as we'd have liked...
