Derelict house, 'derelict' bridge - DS22

A dull day and much colder but, needing to do some shopping not far from one of my intended 'derelict' building blips noted yesterday, I made a quick diversion. I was lucky, a small break in the cloud somewhere to the West brought a few rays of sun onto the scene for just a few minutes. The bridge might also be considered 'derelict' as it now does not serve the purpose for which it was built though it seems to be in very good condition but in some ways no longer 'goes anywhere'.
The bridge was built over the Leeds Liverpool canal in about 1774, when the Bradford canal was opened linking the centre of Bradford to the Leeds Liverpool canal just the other side of the bridge. The Bradford canal was finally closed in 1922 and subsequently filled in. There have been several plans to reopen it but that would be more or less impossible now, another of the many missed opportunities for Bradford. The Leeds Liverpool is a thriving leisure waterway, cycle way and walk, teeming with narrow boats and wildlife and passing through some beautiful countryside and some fascinating historical urban sections, one being Saltaire village.
The bridge was built to allow the horses pulling barges to cross between the Bradford and Leeds Liverpool canal towpaths.
The derelict building on the other side is reputedly based on one far older than the bridge, dating to the first two decades of the 17th century.
The short remaining stretch of the Bradford canal, maybe 100 yards, is where I met my yesterday's blip, and the house is the one he told me was to be restored. Unfortunately, I didn't find him today.
