Roman Bridge

Also known as the Centurian's Bridge over the river North Esk on the Penicuik House estate, we last saw it in a very poor state and were unable to use it. Now, after the restoration project, it is sound in wind and limb stone, although there is no clear path on the opposite side.

We went on to see the frogs on the Lower Pond, busy with making friends despite the huge expanse of spawn already laid, closely watched by the resident heron, whose lunch we delayed. On the track we nearly stood on a pair who couldn't wait to reach the pond, followed by a lone toad (extra 1).

Meanwhile, back at home, we counted 18 (eighteen) frogs in our little, tiny pond (extra 2 - they're all there).
