Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

All for electricity!

Our entertainment for the day was watching BC Hydro work to restore our power lines including one pole.    I’m picking this blip because I like the view between the big equipment which just put this 55 ft pole in the ground and you can see the next pole down the hill toward our cabin with a guy on top attaching those wires back on.  There are 2 more poles further on down to the cabin.  A girlfriend and I walked this line to figure out where to put them in 1993.  (the poles aren’t that old—shouldn’t have broken off….was buggy.)   You can also see the broken snag that fell on the lines in the upper right (this is less than 1/3 of the height of the tree) I couldn’t easily figure a way to show how big that tree was so the first extra is taken from me standing a few feet on the other side of the new pole last summer.   The eagles liked to perch there and I could just barely see them from the cabin.  a couple more extras of men at work.   I think there were 8 guys..they told me at 10:30 that the power would be back on within 4 hours.  It was back at 2:00.  They also told us that we wouldn’t be allowed a power line like this today —we’d have to build a road here.   But they are obligated to fix them (even tho we bought 5 of them originally -and yes it was way too expensive to even think about putting them underground) …And it was they, on the island for something else, that noticed the line was down just on friday.   I suspect from the windstorm last sunday.   Let’s hope that next pole down is not buggy.  The rest of that rotten tree could still fall on the line.  I do admit I do appreciate having electricity out here!   We are spoiled.    Now to wash last nights’ dishes!
