Crepuscule

We had to spend the day at home today, catching up with neglected work, so I just nipped out for a quick photo.

Yesterday evening, after spending the day with B, we went to see Mourad Merzouki's creation Pixel at the theatre in Narbonne. I've been looking forward to it for ages; it was definitely worth booking six months in advance (nevertheless ending up on row X ...). Wow -- it was like being on another planet. The concept mixes hip-hop with computer-generated art; the dancers interact with the projected pixels and the pixels react to their movements. Massive talent from dancers, choreographer, composer, and computer geeks produced a literal feast for the eyes -- empty your mind and let the immersive visuals flow. In a way it didn't matter being so far back because you got a good view of the patterns formed, though I'd have liked to be a bit closer. It lasted something over an hour and I could have happily sat through it again. It's hard to describe in words, so have a look at the video here or here for a small taste of it. I couldn't help thinking of the ballet scene in The Red Shoes -- of course there were no computers then, but Powell and Pressburger created a similar dream world with painted screens, projection, and montages. I wonder what they'd have done with this technology.
