A Day Worth Recording

We had a semi-impromptu trip to the Slimbridge wildfowl and wetlands trust reserve in Gloucestershire.  Our (public-transport-reliant) guests had had a failed trip last week; we wanted to go sometime anyway, so we all went off together and had a very pleasant day wandering around between display areas and hides.

I'd assumed a site rather like the one they have in Welney, but Slimbridge also has a large area of 'captive' birds (not that the birds noticed the low fences much), and a world-wide spread including flamingoes - which seemed a bit odd initially.

The blip is of the cranes, formerly native to UK, that they've bred hoping to reintroduce them.

Also saw my first stationary kingfisher.  For whatever reason, I've only ever seen a blue blur as one shot past, so this was a bit special; if a bit distant.  Hence, deploying the 'cheat' option of extras this time.
