Lali's World

The Smugglers Inn

The Smugglers Inn must have been a great place to go and have a drink, maybe a meal, meet your friends. Looks like it must have been a really nice place inside as well in its better days. The building is now in a rather bad state of disrepair. Business finished some time ago and looks like nobody really cares about it anymore. Maybe the place is haunted, I don't know....

In the 18th and 19th centuries whisky smugglers were people who produced and sold whisky illegally in Scotland rather than those who imported contraband whisky. At the time distilling was still pretty much a sideline to farming for most.

And, by the way, I found out the explanation for the shells in walls to protect against witchcraft: As witches and ghouls can't cross water, the shells represent the sea, giving protection. Shells are also associated with the moon, as the moon controls the tides of the ocean. They are associated as well with money and prosperity, as in some parts of the world they were used as currency.

Anyway... Long day at work and feeling tired. The day went well though apart from a few problems we had with our computer system. I'm sure life before computers was less stressful! Back to work tomorrow...

The weather was lovely, by the way.

Thanks very much for all your lovely comments and stars. I hope you're all enjoying your Easter break! :)
