Gibbston wine and food festival

We walked to Queenstown Gardens, which is on a small peninsula in town, for the Gibbston wine and food festival. It cost $25 to get in, which included three wine tastings, a souvenir tasting glass and a $5 bonus bet at the casino in town (who were the main sponsor of the festival).

The three of us walked around to check out all the food stalls and on the way, used up our free tastings. Most other tastings were $1 or $2 each. I stuck to the pinot noir. The forecast had been rain but we were lucky to get a full day of sunshine, which was perfect for lying around on the grass listening to the jazz band play while sipping on some local wine and tasty food. It was such a great day! I'm glad I looked up festivals when I started my road trip as it allowed me to plan my route around two festivals.

On the way back to our campsite we stopped off at the casino to use our bonus bet. I walked away $15 up! I used that money to buy dinner from the famous Fergburger, a Queenstown institution which has a huge queue every single day. We found out you could order over the phone and avoid the long wait. I had a blue cheese burger and it lived up to its reputation!
