Eggs

When I was growing up we had white eggs - a brown egg was considered a real treat. Now, brown eggs seem to be the standard and I struggle to find white chicken eggs. So, what I'd like to know is, where have all the chickens that lay white eggs gone? And do brown eggs really taste any better than white ones?
