Edward Ridgway Memorial, Middleton Church

My online course, 'England in the time of Richard III' is all about 'Death and Commemoration' this week. It talks about burial practices at that time. Of course, we only see monuments to the wealthy and famous as the ordinary people of England could not afford such markers.
I visited Middleton Church this morning and spotted this fine monument on the wall. It is to Edward Ridgway, second son of Thomas, Earl of Londonderry, who died on the 19th September, 1638. Edward was the second son of the Earl of Londonderry. On this Jacobean mural Edward is shown kneeling and dressed in armour, with his sword at his side, wearing a helmet and a red cloak.
