twinned with trumpton

By MrFT

An early start; on the 0804 Aberdeen train from Waverley; combined with the start of BST I was probably up around 4.30 in real terms....
But a lovely morning and by 9 we were poised to pick up where we left off a couple of months ago. Hardly a soul about, we strode up Kirkcaldy esplanade in sun and admired the concrete brutalism on display.
Onwards out of town to Dysart (new to both of us) and the first East Neuk type villages.
By late morning we were back in the 60's and 70's for Methil, Buckhaven and Leven, and then at midday we started out onto the expanse of beaches stretching eastwards to Shell Bay. A heavy shower just before lunch abated, so we grabbed a bench with a view as suddenly the sun reappeared and we had the celery / blue cheese / cashew / apple soup. (Hers, not mine)
And onwards; busier now on the beach as choc filled kids and neglected dogs were ushered out into the mostly sunny occasionally gloomy afternoon. Round Shell Bay, ignoring the Elie chain walk and into the E Neuk proper, alternating between the twee / quaint pan tiled cottages and the beachy / rocky coastline.
Supplies in St Monans and on through Pittenween before our stop off point for the night at Anstruther. Right in the centre of town, handy for the chippy, we checked in around 5.30.25 miles.

After tending shredded feet it was cold beer o'clock and then to the chippy (THE chippy) before retiring with crap TV and a beer to the room.

Not a bad wander through the mining / farming / fishing / industrial / tourist heritage of Fife.
