Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering

Early start this morning - MrM and I were in Morpeth before 8.00am to set up our stall in the foyer of the town hall for the Northumbrian Gathering. We were there just today, but the Gathering is a three-day event celebrating Northumbrian tradition.

The weather wasn't very kind, and the drizzle, interspersed with light rain, persisted well in to the afternoon. But it didn't stop crowds of people watching the procession, many under umbrellas. The men of Addison Rapper carried the banner and stood still for quite a while, getting cold and wet in their shirtsleeves, while the speeches were made outside the town hall. And the rain didn't stop the rapper side, Morris dancers and other street performers from entertaining crowds of people throughout the day.

We met several old friends and made some new ones, and generally had a good day - lots of interest in our instruments too.

Packed up and back home by 6.00pm. MrM's since gone out to play at a ceilidh and I'm about to tackle some domestic chores before putting my feet up for a bit...
