Solar Impulse - Open House

The countdown for the next flight of the Solar Impulse 2 plane is 12 days and counting.  It's been resting in a hangar here since last July when pilot Andre Borschberg flew nonstop 5 days and nites (117 hours 52 minutes) from Japan, marking the longest solar flight both by time and distance.   Overheated batteries needed to be replaced, maintenance work to be done and now focusing on getting ready for the next leg of their around the world by solar powered flight.  Airplane has 236 foot wingspan with more than 17,000 solar cells, 4 electric motors and lithium batteries.  Couldn't get the full wingspan in the foto, but you get the idea of it.  The batteries are kept cool (the green hoses) even in the hangar ('tho it was about 90 deg F and hot inside).
The extra is a close(r)-up of the cockpit to show its size for one person.
This is the website :The solar impulse plane.

However, the highlight of the day was going from zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds on an outside runway in the latest Tesla 90D !  Gosh it was fun.
Great day!
