Rivington Pike

A trip out to Rivington, walking up to the Pike.

It seemed as if all the world was there - and his and her many many dogs. I am glad that humans are not like dogs - all that greeting each other by sniffing each other's bottoms.

The area looks in need of a bit of investment and interpretation, so it is good to hear that the Rivington Heritage Trust was awarded £3.4 million in January from the Heritage Lottery Fund to improve the terraced gardens created by Lord Leverhulme in the early part of the last century. Not to restore them to Thomas Mawson's designs - local people have grown to love the woodland which has overrun much of the area. It will be good to see how this project develops over the next 3 years.
