Three Crowded Balconies ...

... on West 97th Street, opposite our 11th floor apartment at 9:15 this morning. You may detect a certain fuzziness--it's due to the screen in the window, which I can't get around. It's emblematic of our lingering jetlag, after arriving from Paris yesterday afternoon.

I had a good visit to the Metropolitan Museum in the afternoon. Most interesting was a superb small exhibition around a newly discovered drawing from the Netherlands from ca. 1440--a rare item related to the Jan van Eyck's  (ca. 1390-1441) painting of the Crucifixion (dated 1440-41) in the Met; the drawing may even be by van Eyck himself. Another impressive show was "The Power of Prints",   on the legacy of the Met's great print curators (Wm. M. Ivins and A. Hyatt Mayor).
