Jay

Flying cautiously in to see what I'd brought into his woodland territory, he was happy to grab a few peanuts so long as I kept totally motionless.  A good bribe on my part I felt as they are so vigilant and shy!

I love their exotic coloured plumage but because of the lack of dense woodland round our house I have to track them down which I did today in Highnam woods.  In early spring they become social birds, gathering for ceremonies in which they chase one another on slowly flapping wings. They nest in trees, lay 3-6 green-tinged freckly eggs round about this time of year with both parents feeding the young till they fledge after 20 days. Great to see this afternoon !!
