Snake on the path

Raining most of the day, heavy long lasting showers. Cycled to Guerlsquin for coffee but raining so hard we stayed for a lunchtime sandwich and another coffee. Cycled on and thought taking the Greenways cycle path would be a good idea. It started with a short tarmac section followed by sandy clay which clogged up our bikes.

Dave saw this snake on the path and swerved to avoid it, hit the mud and his wheels slid, bike went over and he was thrown off and rolled to a stop. Unfortunately I was round a bend and didn't see it, but did see the mud on his jacket. Got off the path and stopped for a coffee at Poullaouen and met 2 other English tourers who had also been on the path covered in mud and heading for the same campsite.

We arrived at Carhaix at the campsite which was a distance out of town with no eating places nearby. Ended up there were 13 tourers at the site nearly all covered in mud and most with no food. Dave, the saviour, cycled up to town to get something as did some of the others.

Later the rain stopped and we were camping by a river. I heard a splash and saw what I thought was an otter swimming up the river but on speaking to a local who didn't know the word otter, said it eats wood, so realised it was a beaver! Thinking about it, it was quite large for an otter.
