Triboro Bridge Toll Plazas

At midday we  took an Amtrak train from Penn Station in Manhattan to Northampton; this was a view early in the trip, heading north through Queens.  Passing the northwestern  end of the Triboro  Bridge, you see the toll plaza for Bronx-bound traffic in the foreground, with the plaza for Manhattan traffic behind it.. The ramp to the latter is closest to us, sloping gradually down to the right, with one white van on it, eventually turning left (out of sight) under the main span to reach Manhattan.

I've crossed the Triboro Bridge dozens of times, but this is the first time I recall seeing this view.  It connects the three city boroughs of Manhattan, Queens and Bronx--hence its name (legally the Triborough Bridge); in fact it has been recently renamed the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge--though the old name is sure to persist for decades.

The train to Northampton was not fast, taking over five hours (it's under three in a car) but reasonably pleasant; the cars were relatively modern, but did not ride nearly as smoothly as even modest French trains. Getting home from the station (ideally  a 10-12 walk) was not pleasant, due to rain--I had to bring our car, and its battery gave out--fortunately our AAA auto club came to the rescue.
