Detail from my antique Indian saree

The peacock is the national bird of India and fully protected. When its tail and wing feathers are measured it is one of the largest flying birds. As a symbol of grace, joy, beauty and love and you rarely see a Hindu deity depicted without a peacock feather in hand or hair. It is said that peacocks are unable to be poisoned and it is good fortune to have feathers in your house.
