Who Started It?

An invitation to lunch with our good friends Jean-Claude and Maiité. They are getting excited because their new flat being built near Paris is nearly ready. In the meantime they have spent the winter at their super house in La Tremblade. J-C did the cooking , all excellent. Plus a delish gateau from the local cake shop.

Jean-Claude says he hates the British but always greets me with a  kiss on both cheeks. Then goes off on one about us English having burnt Joan of Arc at the stake. To which I reply that they started it by putting an arrow through our King Harold's eye. Ah, he responds - that was the Normans and nothing to do with the French.

And then we have another glass of wine and toast the Entente Cordiale.
