Walking down the avenue!

Went down to Benmore Botanic Garden near Dunoon today for a meeting of the Glorious Gardens of Argyll & Bute. Not a great day weather-wise - it got duller and damper as the day went on.

This is the famous avenue of redwoods, Sequoiadendron giganteum, planted in 1863. Just a row of seedlings, as one American botanist was heard to remark - they can live for 3,500 years! The trees at Benmore must be among the oldest in Britain as seed was first brought here only ten years before these trees were planted!
