Take me out to the ball game

The Diamond has been Richmond's Minor League Baseball stadium since 1985. It is home to the Richmond Flying Squirrels and VCU Rams. Baseball has been a contentious topic recently as the city has been trying to secure funding to build a new stadium. This concrete behemoth is far outdated and has been showing its age recently (a chunk of a concrete beam fall onto the stands a few years back).

Though it is cited as one of the deterrents for people visiting the stadium, the huge front stairs that are used to access the field are actually one of my favorite things. I love to climb the stairs, anticipation building until suddenly you can see the field peeking out from behind the concession stands.

Unfortunately, on tonight's visit Mother Nature chose to intervene with some heavy rain. I suppose she was upset that the Squirrel's winning streak was drawing to an end as Altoona commanded a sizeable lead midway through the game.
