Thoth

Back in Carlisle today for an appointment with the dental hygienist, the first time I have ever been to see one and it was a very pleasant experience. My teeth feel squeaky clean!
I took the opportunity to visit the new exhibition at Tullie House which is called "Writing for Eternity - decoding Ancient Egypt". It's a British Museum touring exhibition.  This little statue is of Thoth, an important Egyptian deity - one of his roles was to maintain the universe. He was also credited with the invention of writing, and as the author of all works of science, religion, philosophy and magic. Many Egyptian scribes had a picture of Thoth in their "office".
There is a new permanent exhibition at Tullie House, called "Vikings Revealed" and in my opinion this is more deserving of a visit, being better lit, better curated and more interesting than the Egyptian one. Go and see for yourselves if you can, and if you can't, take a peek HERE
