When life gives you lemons

Lemon flowers (with the benefit of backblipping I can report that two flowers are now open and smell absolutely gorgeous).

This evening the big event was a visit to the College in town which is one of the ones CarbBoy could go to in September.  Some contrasts with experiences I have heard of from friends in the UK: he has a free choice of places.  Wherever he wants to go (within reason) will take him.  Secondly, here it is the state schools that have the cash.  Tonight we saw around the state option, which has one computer in every classroom, and four proper computer rooms.  The library is a lending library and is permanently staffed: so kids can go there at breaktime or in free periods.  Contrast this with TallGirl's school (private) where they have one computer between two in computer lessons, and the library is closed as there are no staff to run it.

Lots to think about, but on the whole we were all (all four of us went) impressed.  What was less impressive was the talk by the Head.  90 minutes of repetitive stuff about pan-European education results, including a cringe-worthy section on attainment by level of qualification of the parents was too much.  Then we were in the group to be shown around by the Head.  Let's just say we were the last group to leave the school (after two and a half hours) by about half an hour.

Still, very useful to have gone.  Some tricky decisions ahead.
