Dick's Pics

Kite-surfing

We took off for the day with the dogs and a picnic, aiming for a vantage point over the Solent because I was we were keen to see the classic J-Class yachts racing. It's the first time, certainly in modern times, that four of them have gathered here in the UK to race. We gambled on Lee-on-Solent, only to see four plump spinnakers in the far distance west of Cowes. They never got over our side and, race over, they slotted in to Cowes marina.

Nearer by, the 8-metre yachts were racing and they looked a fine sight but it was cloudy again and the sun was reluctant to peek out. Just where we'd parked, however, some kite-surfers were taking to the water and now and again there was the odd glimmer of sunshine to add some light. I took mucky millions quite a few images and put the best in a little gallery here.

Choosing the one to blip is often a lottery and very subjective. I just thought that in this image the chap looked pretty cool, determined and in control. In terms of his own skills, I'd say he was the best of the bunch, although they all made it look easy. I'm assured it's not.

Same old problem with the groups here. Where do you stick a blip like this? Surely there should be a sports action group.
