Mosque Lamp, Standen

This distinctive lamp hangs in the Conservatory at Standen, a Grade I Listed Arts and Crafts movement house now owned by the National Trust on the southern edge of East Grinstead in Sussex. The lamp - along with a similar one in the Drawing Room - was brought back by the house's original owners, the Beales, from a 'World Tour' in 1906.

Lighting is an important feature at Standen, which was one of the first houses in the country to be designed to include a supply of electricity. Today's 'extra' shows the light fitting above the house's main staircase.
