Back to School, Singapore

Day 14

Ch went back to school today, to talk to final year students about her work in London, and studies in the UK. I was invited to go along. Raffles Junior College, part of Raffles Institution, founded in 1823. Impressive place. Security men at the gate, I had to hand in my passport. Beautiful gardens, water features, quality facilities. Interesting that they have assembly outside each morning and swear allegiance to the flag. About 200 attended her talk, with lots of good questions at the end. I met three staff who taught her, all so interested in her progress.

My day started early at the market. I watched coconut being shredded - extra shot. These places are a hive of activity, fresh meat and fish, veg and fruit, bakeries. GP surgeries, hair salons, foot massage place. We found the steaming plates and tripod for the wok. You could get anything here.

After the school visit, we headed to Orchard Road, to see the classy shops and malls. The big names are here. Impressive high rise buildings, fountains, marble everywhere. We searched around and bought an oriental teapot and cups. Japanese food for lunch.

MRT and bus back to the house, then a walk in the local area. Some beautiful houses, and impressive designs. Just beyond a huge complex of high rises - extra shot. A walk along the canal, park connector path where CJ has been out for early morning runs. So many out jogging in 30C heat.
