Best of the day

This was the best of the day, weatherwise. It was already extremely windy by then, but the effects were yet to be seen clearly in the sea. That was no longer the case by lunchtime.

Today was supposed to be a fairly gentle day but it's ended up feeling a bit random. I had some work I had to get finished, and the next few days are going to be busy so we thought we wouldn't try to do too much or travel too far. We headed off mid morning towards Ancona (experiencing some appalling driving on the way including someone who almost rammed the back of us because he didn't realise that sensible drivers slow down for sleeping policemen, and he was travelling far too close behind us), but failed to find anywhere reasonable to park so we could explore the city. Also, we didn't think it looked particularly interesting. But the drive back over the Conero headland was much better.

We dropped down to Portonovo, and had lunch at the excellent Ristorante di Giachetti, which would normally be completely booked out "in season". The drive back was perfectly peaceful and I was even able to avail myself of the services of a self-service petrol station, where I had to insert the money first and then get my fuel. It was a good job as we were running on fumes alone.

Back to finish my work, fiddle with social media and upload some photos.

Oh, and can anyone identify the roadside flower in the extras? Is it some sort of poppy?

Just about to pop out for a last drink with a view.
