Fortress Louisbourg

We visited Fortress Louisbourg, here on Cape Breton Island.

It was a brilliant day weather wise, which is good cos the fortress is right out in a very exposed place, overlooking the ocean. We went with two purposes...one to give my sister and husband a taste of the history of this place and the second reason.....they have approached me to make reproductions of the pottery that was used there in the 1700's!!! Pretty cool really....i had a meeting with the guy who is overseeing the project, it will be a good gig, but there is quite a bit of research to be done on my part to match the glaze they used back then. These will be pieces to be used in the restaurant on site, and also to be sold in the gift shop! Next year is the 300 anniversary so they would like me to get things going for that!

We had a great day, walking about watching the animators go about life as it would have been in the early 1700's. Not a life i would have been comfortable dealing with i can tell you. Nonetheless, it was fascinating to see just how they lived and worked. It is also very picturesque.
