Astigmatism Test

Even with the sun shining, it still felt Baltic as His Lordship and I stood and admired the activity in our very own local hole in the ground. What ever gets built on top of it can be assured of strong foundations as we watched the steel rods being sunk into the seeming bottomless pit and soon to be drowned in concrete.

We see buildings in other parts of the town going up in a blink of an eye and suspect that in no time at all they will be needing restorative work, whereas these Quartermile blocks are built slowly and thoroughly and will outlast the rushed ones.

My blip is the side elevation of the newest office block showing its regular windows, a pleasure to the eye of those who like straight lines. The window cleaners who have the contract for the whole site are sitting on a gold mine- it's a never ending job with the amount of glass involved in all the buildings.

Tonight we have the valedictory meal for my friend of many talents and her partner.
She will be hobbling to us, having broken a bone in her foot a week ago. When HL and I were married 18 years ago she came to the reception on crutches, having just broken her ankle- unlucky timing both times. She swears on each occasion she was stone cold sober and blames the dodgy pavements; well you would wouldn't you?
Nevertheless we will watch her intake of champagne and send her home before 4am.
