A confusion of birds

Swirling around my head today was a confusion of birds (yep, that's my own collective noun branding!)  They were everywhere - kestrels hunting, red kites, a few buzzards, the curlews, a couple of greylag geese.  Alive, it was!

I wasn't going to head to the cuckoo spot - it was too cold to hang around. But it drew me in.

Nothing.

So we walked on up the hill.  When I found my rocks in the sunlight against the snowy skies, I knew that would be my fine memory of the day.  And then I heard it. Almost certainly in the closer copse of trees.

Cuckoo! Cuckoo!  Cuckoo!

So I went in search.
