Clocking off

There's a phrase cast adrift from its origins.

I was once docked 15 minutes pay by Matchbox cars for clocking in 5 minutes after time because my bus was late. I didn't get extra pay when the bus was early. An important experience in the formation of my politics.

Factory (n) /ˈfakt(ə)ri/ archaic A building or group of buildings where goods used to be manufactured or assembled chiefly by machine and unimportant humans. (Oxford dictionary, amended)

A while after I left, the whole process got moved first to Macau then to China but I like to think that there are still one or two battered old pink and yellow beach buggies knocking around that were made by me. Perhaps you have one in your attic.
