Der Main

It was a gorgeous day to arrive in Würzburg - the sun was shining and everybody was at the river (which is called der Main*).

The afternoon at the conference was good and it finished at 5 which meant I could have a good look round in some beautiful sunshine.

It's something I really enjoy doing - wandering without a plan and just seeing how the city IS. 

The sunny side of the river was mobbed - not a seat to be had in the huge beer garden (Alten Kranen) and the little park next to it was filled with students with bottles of beer.  It was an ace atmosphere.

I had a very pleasant couple of hours wandering around before I took a seat outside in the sun, if you please, and enjoyed a couple of glasses of the local brew.

*The same river that runs through Frankfurt am Main in Hessen.  There's another Frankfurt - Frankfurt an der Oder which is on the border with Poland.  Don't get them confused, they're very different cities.
