Commute

At Mayakovskaya which is regarded as one of the most beautiful stations in the metro system (in fact, it won the Grand Prix for its design at the World's Fair in New York in 1939 - one of the Fair's themes: "I have seen the Future").  The Soviets built a life-sized replica of the station at the exhibition.

PS.  There an operatic concert being staged in the metro tonight (14 May at 02.00 - once the trains have stopped running).  It's in the Kropotkinskaya Metro Station which was designed by the same architect, Alexey Nikolayevich Dushkin, who designed Mayakovskaya.  According to the conductor (opera, not train) the acoustics are near perfect.  More on the event in this link (it's in Russian but Google Translate will help).
