The Conservatory at Syon Park

Today I visited Syon House with a friend. It is the London home of the Duke of Northumberland,  and the house was built in 1547 while under the ownership of the 1st Duke of Somerset. Syon's current interior was designed by Robert Adam in 1762 under the commission of the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. Syon Park borders the Thames River, and looks across the river to Kew Gardens. Near its banks is a tidal meadow which is frequently flooded. It contains more than 200 species of rare trees.

Syon House is known world- wide as one of Robert Adam’s best examples of neo-classical splendour, and it has a collection of art and antiques collected over centuries by the Percy family. Syon is also an exclusive location for filming and photo shoots, notably, Belle, Gosford Park and Emma.

There is the most beautiful conservatory in Syon Park, as can be seen here. In this beautiful sunshine it looks magnificent. The extra photos show some of the rooms and the exterior of the house.

It was a mere 35 minute drive to get there, using the motorways, but coming home my stupid Satnav redirected me through all the small towns rather than using the motorways and it took me a very frustrating hour and a half to get home!
