Exciting day!

Having got up really late I decided to go for a quick trip to Oaken wood in Surrey to see if the Wood white butterflies were flying, sadly they weren't but I did find these Longhorn bees Eucera longicornis.
The longhorn bee is named after the males very long antennae, which as you can see from my shots are huge!
They are solitary ground nesting bees, and are actually rather rare.... luckily there are a couple of colonies near where I live, but they are so difficult to photograph......so I was really happy to get these shots today.
I have included a second shot in my extras and also a shot of a beautiful Grizzled skipper who also happened to fly past my lens.
