The bean

Chicago is an amazing city and what a great place in which to spend the last few days of our adventure. Everyone told us to take an Architecture River Tour, so that’s what we did this morning. Excellent it was too; everyone was right. We cruised the waters in a lovely boat and had a first class commentary the whole way, given by a volunteer docent from the Chicago Architecture Foundation, who certainly knew his stuff.

We then wandered down to the Millennium Park and of course went along with everyone else to gaze at ‘the bean’ or Cloud Gate, Anish Kapoor’s 110-ton, silver drop sculpture that reflects the sky and the skyline. I liked this picture, as it shows how the sculpture attracts so many people – you may be able to detect the two of us in the reflection!

It had turned out to be a lovely sunny day, (I think we take the weather with us wherever we go!), so we continued to wander and saw some amazing things. This evening we went to one of the ‘original’ Chicago-style deep pan pizza places. A few of them claim to be the ‘original’ but this one is actually called Pizzeria Uno. It has a great atmosphere and is very popular. Fabulous!
