Hermit Thrush

A late afternoon outing to the top of Mount Holyoke in Hadley produced a fair number of birds--but all were very active and mostly too high for good photos. However on our drive down we saw this distant bird, nearly directly into the sun (fortunately my lens was shaded); he froze for a number of  identical shots and then moved on.  Unfortunately this image does not present the Hermit thrush's clearest identifying feature--a rufous (dull red) tail. But you see it in here, in one of my images on Don Kroodsma's marvelous  bird song site, which I mentioned a few days ago;  as I finish this comment the bird's song accompanies me--the track I linked to is nearly eight minutes long!
