a most unusual flower...

i want to say it's a pine cone flower - but then i found myself standing in front of this tree - snapping photos of this odd looking 'flower' asking myself - "do pine cones flower?"

i have never seen anything like this - so then i began to believe i was making - up that fact, which isn't too far off the - realm of imagination since i often - make things up; not intentionally mind you - it just happens out of innocence - on my part - so this might be another one of those occasions
