So small and so trusting

In Islam dogs are regarded as unclean and so dogs as pets are unusual in Jordan. Most dogs here are working dogs; usually guard dogs for the house or herd dogs with the goats and sheep.

Lack of familiarity with dogs leads to a lot of fear towards them and when I walk mine it is not unusual for people to cross the street to avoid them. Children sometime bark a them or throw stones. I have known one or two people to jump over walls or hedges or hide behind vehicles when they see us coming which is always comic!

I was lucky to spend the afternoon with my friend Judith who breeds cocker spaniels. This is her most recent litter. Just four weeks old and already seriously cute and so trusting of humans. People who don't like dogs really don't know what they miss out on!

To be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved.
