Gold Finch

These are male Lesser Gold Finches. Ninety-six percent of their diet consists of seeds, even in peak insect season, thus, they are highly attracted to feeders. These were the only birds I saw up there today at the feeding area, except for the wild turkeys.

I took this up at Madera Canyon early, before the monsoon skies opened up. The rain surprised me, because although the clouds will often build with the heat, it wasn't all that dark. Our July's are very unpredictable.
