The tall structure in the distance is Dixon's Chimney, once (back in the days before structures such as the Eiffel Tower), this chimney was the tallest structure in the world, briefly, though I will probably be corrected in this ~ it also typifies Carlisle for me and reminds me of many a Lowry painting, prints of which used to hang in my home as a kid.
