Holy Island

It wasn't a great forecast for our second day on Arran but we decided to stick with our plan to visit another island just a short ferry hop from Lamlash. I can't resist an island and despite the rain that closed in and soaked us it was a memorable adventure! The centre for World Peace and Health had a beautiful biodynamic garden which I wandered around. Earthdreamer took the mountain route and given the forecast I opted for the coastal path! I aspired to see the wild Sannan goats reputed to have been bought to the island by the Vikings, the Soay sheep and the Eriskay ponies. I was lucky to spot them all.
Holy Isle has an ancient spiritual heritage dating back to the 6th century and the ancient kingdom of Dal Riada, when the Celtic ChristianSaint Molaise lived here in a hermits cave. Today the Rokpa Trust are the custodians of the island. After a delightful walk we were invited to dry out by the fire and enjoy a welcome cuppa curtesy of the staff at the centre.
Back to Edinburgh in the late afternoon.
