Rackwick

We set off to the island of Hoy today, a twenty nine minute crossing from Stromness! At Moaness we had a coffee and flapjack before taking the path to Rackwick, a 6.5km walk. Great Skuas or Bonxies as they are called here flew overhead. We passed the most northerly woodland in Britain, although in the absence of sheep there was lots of regeneration happening. We didn't have time to climb the cliffs to The Old Man of Hoy next time! Rackwick is a beautiful settlement of crofts many with grass roofs and the fine sandy beach has many pink and grey pebbles on it.
